Throughout Chad’s 30-plus year career in the engineering, consulting and construction industries, he has played a significant role in the evolution of quality and sustainability in the built environment. Chad started his career as a mechanical engineer in the US Air Force leading efforts to automate and manage Tyndall Air Force Base for comfort and energy efficiency. In addition, Chad was in-charge of a 60-person operations and maintenance squadron during Desert Storm in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
For the next 12 years, Chad served as president of Dorgan Associates, a consulting firm focused on the transfer of technology from research to application, and the development and implementation of the commissioning process for governments, institutions and corporations. This effort included authoring ten books, dozens of papers, and being a leader in establishing the commissioning prerequisite and credit in the USGBC LEED rating systems.
For the next 15 years, Chad was instrumental in creating and leading McCarthy’s efforts to step up to the quality and sustainability challenge. For quality, Chad was responsible for the creation and implementation of McCarthy’s innovative Quality Without Question Program, as well as leading the original development and growth of McCarthy’s Virtual Design and Construction efforts, both focused upon consistently building the best buildings in America for the firm’s clients and industry partners. Chad was also responsible for McCarthy’s Sustainability Initiatives and as the Corporate Leader of McCarthy’s Green Steering Committee, he spearheaded the development of McCarthy’s unique Green Curriculum, making the firm the first general contractor in the nation to internally create 30 hours of online, builder-focused training dedicated to sustainability. The success of this training program played an instrumental role in McCarthy being recognized as a green leader for over a decade.
Chad is also a LEED Fellow through the USGBC, as well as Fellow member with ASHRAE. Chad has also been recognized with several industry awards, including the ASHRAE Distinguished Service Award and the 2004 Benner Award from the Building Commissioning Association for making commissioning business as usual. Dorgan graduated from the University of Wisconsin, with a B.S. Mechanical Engineering and Ph.D. Indoor Air Quality.
